The NEW GD40 DRILLING UNIT
Built for the relentless pace of structural steel fabrication, the GD40 Drill Unit is a modern, high-performance drilling solution engineered specifically for AISC-certified environments. Its narrow-profile design, combined with the rigidity and multi-process capability of the Element 500 gantry, delivers high performance in a reduced footprint, maximizing throughput without expanding floor space.
The Element 500 with the GD40 Drill Unit offers predictable, repeatable drilling and a full suite of integrated process tools. Drill, cut (plasma or oxyfuel), and perform marking functions all within a single setup, eliminating excess plate handling, so you can keep production moving.
Features and Benefits:
- Reduces or eliminates the secondary operations.
- Suhner drill spindle with CAT 40 taper maximum drilling diameter of 1-9/16” (40mm) in mild steel depending on variant.
- Thread tapping, Counter-boring, and Counter-sinking.
- Pneumatic draw bar provides quick and fully automated tool changes with optional stationary tool changer/storage unit (12 tool capacity). Increased tool storage capacity available, flexible mounting options.
- Servo controlled part hold-down clamp detects the work surface and applies downward clamping force to stabilize the material.
- Integrated air blast clears swarf generated from processing away from the processing area.
- Dedicated y-axis motor provides absolute positioning of the drill carriage and allows for automatic parking away from the cutting process when not in use.
- Y-axis carriage clamping system locks the drill carriage securely when drilling.
- Auto tool measurement saves time and increases depth accuracy while also eliminating manual tool measurement errors.
- MQL lubrication system delivers lubrication through the drilling tool and or via an external nozzle.
Process Controls:
The 64 bit, Windows 11, Global Connect control provides simple, 18.5” touch screen operation and intuitive setup for drilling tools. Integrated CAD/CAM functionality with OmniWin software streamlines the process, improves planning reliability, and requires minimal training.
