As the laser beam is guided via a fiber cable, no adjustment is necessary between laser source and carriage. Also, no purging gas is needed.

With a wall plug efficiency of up to 30 percent, fiber lasers are much more efficient than CO2 lasers. The cutting quality in mild steel is comparable up to 15 millimeters in thickness. Mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum are able to be cut.

This capability enables this head to be used in conjunction with the plasma cutting process because no mirrors will contaminate it. Precitec’s EG8030 height-sensing system maintains a constant height at high cut speeds to achieve optimum cut quality.

IPG Photonic’s high-power CW Ytterbium Fiber Laser YLS-Cut & U Series systems are are compact, rugged, and efficient power supply systems, designed from active optical fibers and semiconductor diodes. These systems merge two of the most innovative and advanced laser technologies.

Fiber lasers use single-emitter semiconductor diodes as the light source to pump active fibers. The laser beam emitted is contained within optical fibers and delivered through an armored flexible cable. Active fibers—special optical fibers doped with rare earth ions—allow for an extremely bright light from a very small core.
